Teaching¶
Courses at Colorado School of Mines¶
GPGN 318 — Applied Geophysics 1¶
Survey design, data acquisition, processing, and interpretation of positioning, gravity, electrical, and magnetic methods using field instrumentation. Open-source course materials including Jupyter notebooks, lab assignments, and data sets.
GPGN 319 — Applied Geophysics 2¶
Continuation covering electromagnetic methods (time-domain and frequency-domain EM), with hands-on field instrumentation labs. Open-source materials covering forward modeling, data processing, and inversion workflows.
GPGN 329 — Geophysical Inversion¶
Foundations of geophysical inversion: Tikhonov regularization, singular value decomposition, conjugate gradient methods, and Gauss-Newton optimization. Jupyter-based assignments using SimPEG.
Open Educational Resources¶
Geophysics for Practicing Geoscientists (GPG)¶
An open-source, interactive textbook covering the fundamentals of applied geophysics — DC resistivity, electromagnetics, gravity, magnetics, and seismic methods. Developed collaboratively through the GeoSci.xyz initiative at UBC. I have contributed content on electromagnetic methods, forward modeling, and inversion concepts.
Tutorials & Workshops¶
SKYTEM AEM Inversion — SEG Near Surface Webinar Series (2024)¶
A hands-on tutorial presented for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists Near Surface geophysics webinar series. Covers end-to-end airborne electromagnetic (AEM) data inversion using the SKYTEM system and SimPEG, from data loading and quality control through 1D inversion workflows.
